About Kathy
U.S. Representative Kathy Castor is a native Floridian and the first woman elected to represent the people of Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties in Congress. Since being elected, Kathy has dedicated her career to serving the Tampa Bay community, building a record of results that has earned trust across the region and across party lines. For nearly two decades, she has delivered for Tampa Bay families by strengthening the local economy, securing grants and investments that create good-paying jobs, and fighting to improve quality of life throughout the region.
Congresswoman Castor started her professional legal career with the Florida Department of Community Affairs working to enforce environmental and growth management laws that protect wetlands, Florida’s coastline, endangered species and sensitive lands. In private practice, Castor continued her commitment to Florida’s environment as a land use/environmental attorney representing local governments. As a Hillsborough County Commissioner, Castor served as the chair of the Hillsborough County Environmental Protection Commission that is charged with protecting the air, water, wetlands, and land of Hillsborough County, and the delegated elements of the Clean Air and Clean Water Acts.
Now, as a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and former Chair of the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis, Kathy Castor and Democrats passed the Inflation Reduction Act and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
She stands up to grow the middle class and boost small business owners, guaranteeing that everyone has an equal opportunity to succeed. She has successfully fought to bring new, good-paying job opportunities to the region by supporting both small businesses and large economic engines, including Port Tampa Bay, the University of South Florida, Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute, Tampa International Airport, MacDill Air Force Base and federally-qualified community health centers. She is committed to a diverse and strong Tampa Bay economy that keeps costs for families in check, keeps health care and energy affordable, and protects our environment and way of life.
